As De Kas is recommended in National Geographic’s Food Journeys of a Lifetime as a kitchen garden experience that must be savored when in Amsterdam, I decided to try out this restaurant when I was in town.
This is actually a greenhouse restaurant that grows organic produce on site. The fixed price Mediterranean menu changes daily. Food was not as memorable as the way it was presented–I had a three-course meal that was tasteless. I was more impressed by the decor by Piet Boon than the food. The quality of the food does not deserve a Michelin star, but the decor was lovely and romantic at night, certainly well-deserved for holding a wedding banquet that took place the night I was there.
Come for the ambiance and special celebration, but not for the food. It is worth noting that food from the best Michelin or non-Michelin-starred restaurants in Amsterdam are typically not that great, and would score less favorable on the deliciousness factor in foodie destinations like San Francisco and Taipei.
